Kitchen Design Ideas - How To Paint Your Old Refrigerator
There are a few design and color choices for refrigerators in the market. Most of us just go for stainless steel refrigerators because they can fit in a modern kitchen setting. But if you are thinking of a better design scheme and you want your fridge to look attractive, you can try painting it.
Check out the following steps in painting your old fridge:
Step 1:
If your current fridge is installed into a wall or a cabinet, you don't have to pull it off from its place to paint the back. The back is usually painted black to help the coils emit heat. You only need to paint the front portion of the fridge.
Decide what color you would like to use. Buy the color of paint you want. You might want to choose one with a glossy surface. There are also special types of paints that are used solely for appliances. The paint will not crack or chip away because they have been designed to withstand intense temperature. If your fridge has been installed into a wall or cabinet, choose the brush application-type of paint. If not, you can choose from the spray type of paint.
Step 2: Clean the front exterior of your fridge. Soak clean cloth in soapy water and wipe the exterior. Get rid of oil, grease and stains. Also wipe away dust and dirt. Make sure the exterior is not oily so that paint can adhere to the surface of the fridge easily.
Step 3: If there are scratches or parts chipping off, smooth it out by using sandpaper. Only sand off the chipped area and not the area that surrounds it. Use clean cloth to remove dust.
Step 4: Use masking tape to cover the handles of the fridge and the side areas. You can try buying painter's masking tape as it is easier to peel off. Also cover the rubber seal of the fridge. Also place tape on the front area of the bottom panel. This will prevent paint from getting under the fridge.
Step 5: Now you can paint the exterior of the refrigerator. Make sure you follow one direction to achieve even coloring. Let the first coat dry completely before adding a second one. You can add a third layer if you want a darker shade.
Step 6: Allow it to dry completely. Once it has dried up, remove the masking tapes.
